VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc: compact braking device with TÜV-certified standstill detection and intelligent brake optimization
PETER electronic is offering a new braking device, VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc, for safe motor shutdown with intelligent braking current control and integrated device protection, once again meeting the highest safety standards.
The new VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc from PETER electronic is a powerful yet compact braking device in a printed circuit board design. In adding this new product to its portfolio, PETER electronic has once again successfully combined user-friendly dimensions with extensive safety functions and a self-optimized braking current. Designed for decentralized installation in a machine’s control panel, this new braking device is ideal for applications where it is important to bring the motor as fast as possible to a safe, controlled standstill. Typical areas of application therefore include woodworking, along with mixers or sifters, and it is especially well suited to systems with safety doors.
Thanks to its intuitive braking time control feature, the VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc can automatically determine the optimum braking current for your desired braking time during the first three braking cycles. By offering this intelligent function, PETER electronic makes commissioning significantly easier and helps to optimize processes. The optimum calculation and fully automatic adjustment of the braking current also helps to extend the service life of all the components involved.
Safe standstill in less than 0.5 seconds
The emergency stop function of the VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc makes it possible to bring motors to a standstill safely in less than 0.5 seconds. It prevents unintentional start-ups and uses a forcibly guided relay to make sure the motor is switched off safely in the event of a fault. This function complies with the EN ISO 13849-1 (PL c) and EN 61508 (SIL 1) standards. Thanks to the integrated standstill detection feature and locking contact, the motor cannot be switched on again during the braking phase. There is no need for an additional braking contactor, which makes it easier to integrate the product into systems with safety doors. The braking current for the emergency stop is reduced when the drive system is at a standstill and even shortly beforehand, which prevents the drive belt from slipping and the driven tool from overshooting.
Maximum safety in line with international standards
With the VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc, PETER electronic meets the high safety requirements of the EN ISO 13849-1 (Cat. 2/PL c) and EN 61800-5-2/EN 61508 (SIL 1) standards. This makes it suitable for applications with heightened safety requirements, where it is important to reliably prevent an unintentional restart or guarantee a controlled standstill, or where a door lock also needs to be safely controlled. The safety concept is enhanced with external standstill monitoring complete with an intelligent detection function, along with a motor standstill and interlock relay.
Focus on safety
In addition to the traditional DC braking mechanism with a controlled thyristor full-wave bridge circuit up to 60 A, PETER electronic has incorporated a comprehensive protection concept into the VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc. Motor temperature monitoring, thermal device protection and an integrated image of the thermal status of all relevant components ensure maximum operational safety even under demanding conditions. Connection options for different sensor types, such as motor temperature switches or PTC, KTY84 or PT1000 sensors also guarantee added safety.
During the braking phase, a locking contact prevents the motor from being switched on; the motor standstill is automatically detected and safely output via a forcibly guided relay.
Compact, safe, reliable and versatile
With the VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc, PETER electronic has once again succeeded in setting new standards. This decentralized braking device meets the highest safety requirements and has a compact design that makes it easy to integrate, along with intelligent functions that support the implementation of higher-level strategies for comprehensive process optimization in industrial environments.
Thanks to its versatility and flexibility, the VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. Electric drives used in milling, planing, sawing, grinding or brushing machines can therefore be slowed down just as safely and reliably as those used in centrifuges or vibrating sifters. Its traditional area of application is production, especially in machines equipped with safety doors for sensitive production processes.
