PETER electronic – Sustainability as a strategy since 1976
Sustainability, climate protection and corporate social responsibility are buzzwords of the new millennium. As a company with tradition, PETER electronic has been committed to the principles of sustainability since the early days of the company's history.
With innovative products such as soft starters, DC brakes and frequency inverters, PETER electronic has been making a contribution to process optimization and occupational safety in industrial applications for 50 years as an expert in the development and production of electronic components for the control and regulation of electric motors.
The components we provide have been contributing directly to customers' sustainability strategies since 1976.
Components from PETER electronic optimize processes, reduce energy consumption, extend the service life of machines, shorten system downtimes and increase occupational safety. PETER electronic thus combines innovative functionality in its products with ecological and social responsibility. In addition, the company from Berg near Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz is also committed to practicing sustainability in matters of strategic corporate management.
Sustainability needs innovations and companies that implement them
The company took its first steps towards a sustainability strategy back in 1976, the year it was founded, long before the topic gained the prominence it enjoys today: By consistently reusing packaging materials, the company continues to conserve resources and reduce its ecological footprint by actively avoiding waste.
As a developer and manufacturer of control and regulation devices for three-phase, asynchronous and direct current motors, PETER electronic has always paid particular attention to energy efficiency and ways of producing using environmentally friendly energy sources. As an innovator in its own specialized field, the company supports the development of new technologies in energy generation. After installing its own combined heat and power plant in 2001, the company switched to green electricity from renewable energy in 2012.
Directly and indirectly sustainable
By using and reusing rainwater and operating its own drinking water system, PETER electronic strives to minimize its ecological footprint not only by using environmentally friendly energy sources but also as a water consumer.
Further measures included switching to LED lighting technology, upgrading the company fleet to electric vehicles, including installing electric charging points and even generating its own electricity-powered heat pump. The company has not only reduced its indirect CO2 emissions (scope 2 emissions) to 0, but also reduced its direct scope 1 emissions by an impressive 100 % between 2018 and 2026.
Sustainability as a regional employer: Responsibility for people and the environment
As an employer, PETER electronic also combines aspects of sustainability and social responsibility. The company’s regional roots run deep – the vast majority (80%) of employees live within a maximum radius of 20 km from the company's location, with one in five even living directly in the local community. In this way, PETER electronic is simultaneously committed to the regional economy and creates the basis for a healthy work-life balance. The option to work from home where possible reduces additional CO2 emissions from commuting.
PETER electronic is also committed to diversity and equality. As a result, the workforce, which is 60% female and comes from four nations, has been with the company for an average of 12 years under the responsible and employee-oriented conditions prevailing at PETER electronic.
"For us, sustainability means taking a holistic approach to responsibility: for our employees, our environment and our future," explains CEO Bernhard Tischner. "That's why we not only create an optimal working environment, but are also committed to environmentally friendly production processes and the development of particularly energy-efficient technologies. After all, real progress can be achieved only in harmony with people and nature."
