TÜV certification for VersiComb II Safe [5.5 - 30kW] equipment series: Safety functions completely fulfil 100% of the requirements
TÜV Rheinland has tested and certified the VersiComb II Safe equipment series: The safety functions of the high-performance soft start brake combination with thermal overload protection fulfil the highest safety function requirements in the machine industry to ISO 13849-1:2015. The prevention of an inadvertent and fault-related start-up, monitored and controlled shutdown, activation of the door lock and external standstill monitoring was tested.
The safety functions of the motor VersiComb II Safe motor start / brake system fulfil the requirements of the relevant standards (Cat. 2 / PL c to EN ISO 13849-1,
SIL CL 1 to EN 62061 / IEC 61508). VersiComb II Safe can be used in applications up to PL c and SIL 1. Application of other protective measures, e.g. guard doors in combination with the standstill output contacts (X1: 43, X1: 44) is imperative. Use of a motor contactor is recommended but not absolutely necessary.
Special requirements according to the installation and commissioning instructions must be complied with.
We confirm that the VersiComb II Safe complies with the requirements for machinery in accordance with Annex I of the EC Directive 2006/42/EC.
VersiComb II Safe combines a soft starter with a motor brake for three-phase asynchronous motors from 5 to 30 kW in a compact housing. The integrated thermal overload protection, activated in the factory for motor temperature monitoring, ensures increased motor safety.
The highly effective combination is used in all machining tools, in particular saws, milling machines, planes, brushing and grinding machines – as well as vibrators, fans, screens and centrifuges.
Double function with multiple benefit: Soft start with electronic DC brake
The VersiComb II Safe soft start brake combination enables controlled soft starting as well as reliable, wear-free braking of three-phase motors in efficiency classes IE1 to IE3.
In addition to optimum starting and braking properties, the VersiComb II Safe is equipped with intelligent monitoring and control functions, which not only optimise the soft start and braking operation automatically but also ensure maximum protection of the mechanisms and drive components. With VersiComb II Safe, OEM manufacturers can optimise their machines for low additional costs and can therefore offer customers maximum (investment) protection for their equipment. The soft start brake combination can be integrated in the control cabinet easily and in a space-saving way.
High degree of safety in all operating situations
The high inertial mass causes many machines to coast for a correspondingly long time when switched off. Uncontrolled coasting, for example, of the sawblade, however, can be dangerous for man and the machine. Therefore, among other things, the trade safety bodies (“Berufsgenossenschaften” in Germany) specify the minimum requirements for the maximum allowable braking times for woodworking machines.
VersiComb II Safe are used in drives, which require a soft switch-on moment and must be braked reliably for safety and functional reasons. They therefore fulfil the requirements to EN 12750:2013 for use in woodworking machines. Depending on the machine, the braking times can be reduced to a minimum and the motors protected at the same time. Other advantages compared to direct switching on or star-delta starting are, among other things, smooth torque rise and current reduction during the start phase. The motor is controlled exactly, not only during the start but also during the braking operation – until the required nominal speed is reached for starting and controlled motor standstill on switching off.
IIntelligent control & optimisation
Thanks to serial CAN interfaces with CANopen protocol, the VersiComb II Safe devices can be effortlessly integrated in existing machines. In addition, the interface enables reading out of equipment parameters and messages, which can be exchanged with a higher-level control. The starting up parameters with voltage ramp for ideal start behaviour can be set individually via the CAN bus. It is also possible to define customer-specific start with current limit and boost set in the factory. Thanks to intelligent on-board functions, VersiComb II Safe controls the electrical data of the connected motor and and synchronises the optimum starting and braking time with it.
