Safe braking – VersiBrake Safe offers maximum control and safety for low-wear braking processes

After refining our softstart and braking combination VersiComb II Safe, our tried and tested direct current brake for three-phase asynchronous motors is now also to become smarter and safer. With the latest generation - the VersiBrake Safe – you can brake motors in efficiency classes IE1 to IE3 (IE4 in preparation) gently, with low wear and safely: not only that, our most recent braking equipment development justifiably bears the suffix “Safe”, as it offers you comprehensive additional safety functions. The most important innovation is a motor temperature monitoring device and a thermal equipment protection which switches off an overheated motor in good time with the aid of the overtemperature detection, and thus prevents damage to motor or machines. VersiBrake Safe is particularly effective wherever motors have to be gently and reliably shut down for reasons of safety or economic viability. We thus offer you increased safety for a multitude of applications concerning woodworking machines such as saws, milling machines, planes, brushes and grinding machines. The VersiBrake Safe is also able to reliably brake other machines in industrial and building services, for example screening machines, centrifuges, vibrators or fans.

Increased safety for your company

VersiBrake Safe was designed by our Development so that the braking process for three-phase motors – self-learning – is precisely controlled and optimised. The smart brake unit reliably monitors all performance and also safety-relevant motor device values. In this way, as little strain as possible is placed on the components during the slow-down process, wear is avoided and maximum operating safety is guaranteed. Our direct current brake fulfils the pertinent specifications or European DIN standards (such as DIN EN 12750:2013) for the safety of woodworking machines. The safety functions include, for example, the prevention of an inadvertent, malfunction-related start-up, the monitoring of controlled slow-downs, the activation of the (guard) door lock or also the external standstill monitoring with intelligent standstill detection. One of the advantages of VersiBrake Safe applications is not least that an additional brake contactor is rendered superfluous.

The ideal operating temperature: integrated thermal equipment protection

The VersiBrake Safe now integrates a new motor temperature monitoring function: sensors monitor the motor temperature and create a thermal device image. Here the heat sinks and interior device temperatures are also monitored. These safety functions together with the thermal equipment overload protection guarantee increased safety for equipment and operating environments.
Our VersiBrake Safe direct current brake reliably detects very different malfunctions. If these malfunctions would no longer facilitate safe motor operation, then the motors are shut down in order to avoid motor damage. Device parameters and messages can be interchanged using a superordinate control system via a CAN interface with CANopen protocol. In this way, the VersiBrake Safe can be perfectly integrated into different device environments – and everything remains under control.

Overview of important features:

The devices in the VersiBrake Safe series are electrical operating equipment for use in industrial high-voltage systems. They have been designed for use in machines for the braking of flywheel masses on drives with three-phase motors in the efficiency classes IE1, IE2 to IE3 (IE4 in preparation). VersiBrake Safe is designed for asynchronous motors with motor rated outputs from 7.5 to 90 KW or 72 to 360A rated device current. A total of two housing sizes.
