The new VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc from PETER electronic is a powerful yet compact braking device in a printed circuit board design. With this expansion of its product portfolio, PETER electronic has once again succeeded in combining user-friendly proportions with comprehensive safety functions and self-optimizing braking control. As a component for decentralized installation in the machine's control panel, the new braking device is particularly suitable for applications where a safe, controlled standstill of the motor is essential. Typical areas of application include woodworking, as well as mixers and screening machines, especially on systems with safety doors.
The intelligent braking current control enables the VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc to automatically determine the optimal braking current for the desired braking time in a maximum of three braking cycles. With this intelligent function, PETER electronic significantly simplifies commissioning and also contributes to process optimization. The optimal calculation and fully automatic adjustment of the braking current further contributes to extending the service life of all components involved.
Safe stopping in less than 0.5 seconds
The emergency stop function of the VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 PLc enables safe stopping of motors in less than 0.5 seconds. It prevents unintentional starting and, thanks to a positively guided relay, ensures the safe shutdown of the motor in the event of a malfunction. The function complies with the standards EN ISO 13849-1 (PLc) and EN 61508 (SIL 1). Thanks to integrated standstill detection and an interlock contact, restarting during the braking phase is impossible. An additional brake contactor is not required, which simplifies integration into safety door-monitored systems. At the moment the drive comes to a standstill, and even just before, the braking current for the emergency stop is reduced, thus preventing the drive belt from slipping and the tool from overshooting.

PETER electronic's VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc meets the stringent safety requirements of the EN ISO 13849-1 (Cat. 2 / PL c) and EN 61800-5-2 / EN 61508 (SIL 1) standards. This makes it suitable for applications with increased safety requirements, where it is crucial to reliably prevent unintentional restarts, guarantee controlled shutdowns, and ensure the safe control of a door lock. The safety concept is further enhanced by external standstill monitoring with intelligent detection and a motor standstill and locking relay.

In addition to the classic DC braking method with a controlled thyristor full bridge up to 60 A, PETER electronic's VersiBrake Safe LP 480-60 Plc features a comprehensive protection concept. Motor temperature monitoring, thermal device protection, and an integrated display of the thermal condition of all relevant components ensure maximum operational safety, even under demanding conditions. Connection options for various sensor types, such as motor temperature switches, PTCs, KTY84, or PT1000, further enhance safety.
During the braking phase, an interlock contact prevents the motor from being switched on. Motor standstill is automatically detected and reliably output via a positively driven relay.
